| Cedar Island Island Lake- a portrait in 16 images |
|
|
For years after we moved into this place I had the haunting feeling it couldn't possibly be ours. I imagined a very apologetic and flustered gentleman coming to our door and explaining rather awkwardly that there had been a mix up. That we owned the place across the street, not the home on the lake. Finally, eight years later, I do believe the dream came true.

It's almost always the quality of light that draws me out into the yard with my camera. The objects in the images are often just props- something for the light to fall upon. When we first moved in I shrugged and thought I was lucky to have any view at all, even if it didn't face the West. Now I delight in watching the light of the setting sun fall on the neighbor's shore across the bay.

Each season has it's own blessings to gather. I'm getting better at enjoying the moment, even if it happens to be 20 degrees below zero at the time. That is part of the drama of living in Minnesota, each day brings some new change in the weather.

In Minnesota, Fall spans from Summer into Winter in terms of weather, but Winter is only Winter and Spring is partly Winter too.
